For checking the disinfection of containers, equipment and environmental surfaces after cleaning. These Paddle Testers have Tryptic Soy Agar with TTC is on one side of the paddle for total aerobic bacterial count, and DE (Dey-Engley) neutralizing agar on the other side. Tryptic Soy Agar is non-selective and allows a wide variety of bacteria to grow. Dey-Engley Neutralizing Agar is used in disinfectant testing where neutralization of the antiseptics and disinfectants is important for determining their bactericidal activity. This agar neutralizes several antiseptic and disinfectant chemicals including quaternary ammonium compounds, phenolics, iodine, chlorine, mercurial, formaldehyde and glutaraldehyde. Neutralization of disinfectants prevents disinfectant carryover from causing a false no-growth test result and therefore allowing detection of organisms that remain following treatment.

Please note: Paddle testers are semi-quantitative, and are used to evaluate microbial contamination by measuring colony-forming units (CFUs) that form on the agar surface after dipping in liquid, or contacting surfaces.

They provide a simple, on-site means of estimating microbial load changes over time, verifying any control measures that are in place are sufficient, and allowing appropriate actions to be taken if needed.

Paddle testers are NOT a quantitative microbiological test method.
